App Pricing Guide: India Market (2026)

India is the largest app market by downloads, and Apple's suggested price sits far above where most apps land. How to price for it.

India market overview

India is the biggest app market on earth by volume. AppTweak counts 19.1 billion downloads across the App Store and Google Play between November 2024 and November 2025, about 17% of the global total. Downloads fell 14.1% year over year in that period, but no other country comes close to the scale.

The split between stores matters for pricing. Of those downloads, 18 billion came from Google Play and 1.1 billion from the App Store, though iOS grew while Android shrank 16%, per the same report. For most apps, India is an Android market first and an iPhone market second.

The gap between Apple's default and the market

India is where the difference between converting a price and localizing it is easiest to see. RevenueCat's analysis of about 10 apps found that Apple recommends pricing about 21% lower than the US in India, while most apps go 50 to 80% lower. The author calls these rules of thumb, and category and audience change the answer.

Our price tier explainer shows the same gap in rupees. A $19.99 subscription can auto-convert to around ₹1,899, while a market-fit price sits closer to ₹659. That is an illustration of the mechanism and not advice for your app.

Volume is the reason to care. With this many installs, even a small change in conversion at the local price can matter.

How to price for India

Set the price on purpose in both stores. Apple works from fixed price points per storefront, while Google Play lets you set local-currency prices directly. Our comparison of Google Play and Apple price tier differences covers how the two ladders differ.

Start from what people in India will pay, not the exchange rate. The Mirava Index estimates what people in each market will pay from live subscription data. Our guide to setting up local pricing with purchasing power parity covers the older method, and why it matters explains the reasoning. Compare with the lower-income markets we cover in the Turkey and Nigeria guides.

Change one thing at a time. Move the India price, watch conversion and revenue per install, then decide. The wider playbook is in the price localization guide.

Key takeaway

India rewards apps that set a price for India. The default conversion can sit well above what converts in India, and in RevenueCat's sample most apps ended up well below it.
